Building one of Chicago’s largest interior construction projects in recent history, concurrently under construction with the 56-story namesake tower, is a monumental challenge under normal circumstances.
With a global pandemic that impacted most of the construction phase, an unprecedented level of complexity and attention to health and safety was added. In the end, the project was successfully completed on time, under budget and with a superior safety record. More so, it helped maintain essential employment for hundreds of AEC professionals during a time of record-setting unemployment rates.
The massive project encompassed 17 floors, approximately one-third of the building, and included unique features like a trading floor with supplemental cooling and uninterrupted power supply, critical-systems infrastructure, custom two-story trellises, a barista bar and market café, two dedicated outdoor terraces and a monument staircase connecting a two-floor conference center and executive suite.
